Retailers who sell any beverage container (e.g., Coca-Cola drink products, Pepsi drink products, energy drinks, sport drinks, milk containers, juice containers) are required by B.C.’s Recycling Regulation to accept the containers they sell for return and pay to the person returning the containers a refund not less than 10 cents.
In the case a retailer collects a deposit of more than 10 cents for a container they sell, the retailer must pay back the full refund collected for that container.
A retailer may accept no more than 24 containers per day per person of the same brand and type that the retailer sells.
If you have concerns of a retailer not accepting for return or providing a refund for the beverage containers they sell please contact the provinces Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy at ExtendedProducerResponsibility@gov.bc.ca.
